My name is Chris. I love writing, especially raps and poems, and sharing music so I have this tumblr.

Future

Were hoping time will stand still,
But that’s not the case,
The future is catching up to us,
It’s been on the chase,
There will come a time one day when our paths will divide,
We’ll try to hold our ground,
Keep ourselves stable inside,
But our bodies break down,
We don’t want to fall apart,
We shared our lives together,
I gave each of you a piece of my heart,
And now my heart will be scattered all about,
But you grab my hand, look me in the eye,
And tell me without a doubt,
That you know it’s difficult to leave
But I’m impossible to forget,
All those times we spent together,
Are times we’ll never regret,
When we leave each other,
You may cry you need help, some assistance
But remember that true friendship continues to grow,
Even over the longest distance

This will not be our last goodbye,
And when we see each other again,
It won’t be our first hello

Angel (Part III)

Angel (Part III)

Oh how glorious the light is that shines

and radiates through his body,

Erupting a rose from his chest

straight from his heart

Oh how glorious his body

came up from the ground

after crashing through layers of soft earth

How glorious this day when he takes

the rose he had held on for so long,

so dear to his life,

And gives it to his angel

And their bodies collide into beautiful, twisted fragments

of color

Daises spring from her eyes,

and tears drop from a butterfly as it watches

the two majestic beams of love

Spread into every inch and corner of both their souls,

Thousands of burning doves fly from the sky

And God smiles as his plan falls into place

The puzzle has been completed

The demons have finally been put to rest

No more will they haunt the boy who fought

thrashing through the darkness

And in the morning when the sun shines through the window,

a hand will grab the blinds and shut them

A hand that the man will hold

For the rest of his life.

Your heart is like an emerald
So precious and so rare,
And through the waterfall I caught it,
I hope that we can share
This wonderful treasure that shines
like the glow on the dark stars on your ceiling
My ears are ringing
And I can’t hear anything but the soft rhythms
Of your heartbeat

After the brutal storm,
I washed up on the shore,
Cut and battered,
I found a glimmering jewel,
And my wounds were no more

Buried in the sand,
I heard a voice so beautiful and calm,
I lifted my head up to try to seek it,
And an compass appeared in my palm
I tried to use to find the voice
But it stayed pointed to my chest,
Follow your heart,
And your weary journey will be at rest

After the brutal storm,
I washed up on the shore,
Cut and battered,
I found a glimmering jewel,
And my wounds were no more

Butterfly

Her devotion and passion to her dreams fill others with inspiration

Yet when she stares into the mirror,

She can’t stand her own reflection

Shattering the glass, the pieces carve insecurities into her skin,

And the demons crawl through, infecting every arm and limb,

But deep within the notches of her spine,

Lies a bright pair of orange and yellow wings,

Waiting to burst out in due time

 ______________________________

Inside she begs for help

Casting off love because she hates herself

Her body collapses and falls apart

Broken and alone with a battered heart

A wish will be made on a shooting star

That she’ll understand hope doesn’t travel far

Little does she know

She’s a butterfly trapped in a glass jar

 ______________________________________

While her kind words make others sleep soundly at night,

She tosses and turns in her bed,

Panic attacks stab her like a cold, piercing knife,

And millions of thoughts roll around in her head,

The poison apple lies half eaten on her bedroom floor,

Its contents slowly rotting her to the core,

But one night, sand might gently soften her eyelids

And she’ll form her cocoon, a sleep so deep

In the morning when the sun shines through the window panes,

She’ll break free and fly away,

Feeling no pain

 _______________________

Inside she begs for help

Casting off love because she hates herself

Her body collapses and falls apart

Broken and alone with a battered heart

A wish will be made on a shooting star

That she’ll understand hope doesn’t travel far

Little does she know

She’s a butterfly trapped in a glass jar

 ________________________

She’s just a girl filled with dreams,

Not as crazy as she seems,

She’s just a girl filled with dreams,

Not as crazy as she seems

 __________________________

Inside she begs for help

Casting off love because she hates herself

Her body collapses and falls apart

Broken and alone with a battered heart

A wish will be made on a shooting star

That she’ll understand hope doesn’t travel far

Little does she know

She’s a butterfly trapped in a glass jar

I absolutely love this song. Jason Reeves is amazing. And I have to thank pokadotgumballs for blogging about him because I wouldn’t have discovered him. (PS, you should check out her blog, she has great musical taste http://pokadotgumballs.tumblr.com/ )

But this song is one of my favorites. The words are so true and beautiful. Hearts really are magnets.

Back

So I haven’t written up here in a while. Much has happened. Wonderful things have happened. And I find it funny how at the beginning of this new school year I was completely down and truly thought I wouldn’t be able to find anybody and only a couple of weeks in, I have found somebody who continues to make my life better every day. I am finally experiencing something that I have wanted for so long and my life is just a lot more peaceful.

Everything truly does happen for a reason.

Help save America's wolves, please sign here. It only takes a minute.

I also chose to personalize my message. Here’s what I wrote:

Please do not allow the wolves to be exterminated. They are beautiful animals and like any creature, play a vital role in the ecosystem. Being human does not give you the right to end the lives of other living things. Even if wolves may be bothersome to ranchers, that still does not allow any of you the right exterminate them. If the few wolves that are left are harmed due to your choice to delist them, I will sincerely lose my faith in this government and in humanity. It is disgusting to think that the wolf can be so disrespected and so easily thrown away by the ignorant people who care for only their own profit. Have you ever stood in the woods and watched a wolf pack from afar? I have, and when you hear them howl together, how the smooth, haunting song echoes off the trees and fills the forest and surrounds you, you will be quite sure that you have heard something endlessly beautiful and ancient. Take this into consideration as you wonder whether or not you should rid the world of this noble creature. I, an American, will be sitting and waiting, hoping my government has the decency to protect the dignity of the country we share.

Not many people know about this band but they are so good, I just had to post up one of their songs. Just listening to this song brings back so many childhood memories. I’ve posted this line before but I still love it:

“16-bit troubles for my 8-bit heart”

Hope you enjoy it.

This is my favorite song off one of my favorite albums, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. This album completely absorbed me, one of the most wonderful pieces of music I’ve ever listened to. Just look at these lyrics:

“The only girl I’ve ever loved
Was born with roses in her eyes
But then they buried her alive
One evening, 1945
With just her sister at her side
And only weeks before the guns
All came and rained on everyone
Now she’s a little boy in Spain
Playing pianos filled with flames
On empty rings around the sun
All sing to say my dream has come”

The entire cd, as well as this song, inspired me to start writing again and I’ve vastly improved on my writing since.

Rebels at Heart

She walks through life in a kaleidoscope of colors

While those drawn in black cloaks cast judgmental stares,

“This isn’t how you’re supposed to dress. Isn’t she aware?”

The employee refuses to acknowledge such individuality,

“There are no colored abayas, a woman must show modesty.”

She softly utters the words “Color your existence”

And walks out, igniting her dreams with persistence

An escape exists among miles and miles of tangled wires,

Where a young man logs himself in for communication,

The technological island of his generation,

He hopes to build a relationship,

In a country of arranged partnerships,

Falling in love with the girl that never shows her face,

The dream of finally meeting her in a public place,

But they won’t let him into the Red Sea,

The only ones allowed are those with their family

He can only the watch the girl he loves behind a see-through door,

She walks away and so ends his freedom war

Music is their way to express the injustices of society,

Yet, the sounds they love are seen as satanic,

The shows they play cause religious police to panic,

No justice is found, no gigs are booked

They attempt to explain there is no reason to be spooked,

But consideration is not the role authority serves,

The sole response of “no” is the answer that’s absurd

Electric guitars and roaring screams are the band’s paths to happiness,

Nothing can be done, they only feel sadness

April, 1999

She grabbed my hand and took me like a breeze,

and we settled our bodies beneath a thousand burning trees,

Our hearts both beat simultaneously,

A conductor stimulating us with electricity,

She looked deep into my eyes

Told me not to worry, not to cry,

When I’m gone, stay strong my love,

Because everything on Earth looks so much better from above,

And the flowers started melting at our feet,

Both so wrapped in love, we could hardly think

Soon enough, death engulfed her like a cloud

The piercing blast was far too close and far too loud

And her body collapsed against my chest,

I pray to the angels please let her be at rest,

Some say an unlikely martyr died today,

One who loved God in every single way

Please stop the bleeding of these roses,

The thorns wrap around us till they’re right under our noses,

Our mouths no longer speak, but stay silent

While people lash out with unbearable violence,

And they rattle and shake us like a supernova

exploding against a canyon,

Take our our loved ones,

Our companions,

Do we collapse like a injured wolf under the moon,

Or pull ourselves together,

Bask in the summer air of June,

And the young boy and girl hold each other close,

Invisible to the world, floating like a passing ghost,

Take comfort in the light that fills our souls,

Before the breathing of our hearts take their toll

Your mom remembers the tribulations of one

all-too-human teen,

There were days where you would just erupt and scream,

The letters she discovered in your room,

Caused panic and filled her aching body with doom,

A rage-filled young women lashing out at the world,

This weight against you would have to be curled,

And through your faith and your family’s love,

You embraced life just like a angelic dove,

Courage and conviction would now lead your life,

No longer feeling the stabbing pierce of that cold knife

It was hard for everyone when you passed away,

Everyone wishes they could prevent that day,

Turn back the greedy hands of time,

And stop that tragic day in April 1999

This song is so beautiful and calming. It reminds me a lot of a similar song I wrote called “Angel” back in my freshman year of college. I never put it up on tumblr but I may do it in the future. But this song is wonderful, I believe in soulmates and this song exemplifies that.

But you’re so busy changing the world
Just one smile and you could change all of mine :)

Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it’s so hard?
